Substance Use Counseling / Addiction Discernment

I have 15 years of experience working in the field of recovery.  In this time, I made stops at BLVD Treatment Centers, Clear Behavioral Health, and served as a sobriety coach to celebrities, prior to setting off on my own.

The way I work with addiction takes many forms.  Sometimes I work with the person who is themself using a substance or vice to an extent that concerns them.  That work will involve taking a clear-eyed inventory of the benefits they get from engaging in the behavior weighed against the costs.

In other instances, I work with the loved one who is trying to find that balance between standing beside their partner through a difficult time but also determining when they may need to set boundaries to either preserve their own emotional well-being or in the name of a “higher love” for their partner.

Hi I’m Teddy,

I am extremely well-versed in The Twelve Steps, but by no means think that framework (or complete abstinence in general) is the answer for every client.

Some of the themes that arise in my work with addiction include:

  • Boundary Setting
  • Assertiveness Training
  • Addiction Discernment
  • Psychoeducation
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Co-Dependency
  • “Rocking the Boat”
  • Gaslighting
